Visual analysis of trends and patterns in literature
CiteSpace is a freely available Java application for visualizing and analyzing trends and patterns in scientific literature. CiteSpace gathers bibliographic data from various academic databases, such as Web of Science. Users can input search terms to retrieve relevant publications. It creates visual representations of citation networks, displaying nodes (publications) and links (citations) to illustrate how different works are interconnected. It also groups related publications into clusters based on citation patterns, allowing researchers to easily identify key areas of research and influential papers within those areas. The tool can then be used to explore research areas, identify influential publications, analyzes trends and patterns in the data extracted and provides an interactive visualizations. However, the tool's focus on direct citation relations for clustering publications may exclude important relationships that do not involve direct citations.
