Data Abstraction Assistant is an open- acess, open source tool for users to extract relevant information from source documents (like research articles) and link this information directly to specific locations within those documents . The tool integrates with data collection forms used in systematic reviews, enabling users to input extracted data systematically. DAA allows users to mark or flag specific sections of the source documents (e.g., text, tables, figures) from which data has been extracted, which makes it possible to provide an audit trail important to check for accuracy and reproducibility. The tool has been reported to make errors in about 17% data points, while this may be acceptable, methods such as regular verification and independent abstraction are slightly more accuarate i.e 16% error rate and 15% error rate respectively.
